Some people do not wish to take oral tablets, and therefore prefer to use a topical lotion. Some topical lotions/treatments claim to work by stimulating hair growth, while others claim it reduces the amount of DHT in the hair cell by reducing the amount of 5 alpha reductase (Type II only). Neither of these stops testosterone getting to the androgen receptor. Therefore, these treatments are ineffective, and patients usually see very little, if no results.

TRICHAGEN® lotion (for men or women) works in several ways. By reducing the amount of type I & type II enzyme (5 alpha reductase) in the hair cell, therefore lowering DHT by approximately 40%, and by having a blocking effect on the hair cell androgen receptor. Therefore, testosterone and DHT are unable to gain access to the androgen receptor, as long as it is blocked. This leads to the recovery of the hair cell, which allows it to continue in producing an improved hair over a period of time. Patients could end up with more hairs per square centimetre and possibly thicker hair (hair density increase), giving an improved overall appearance, with further hair loss prevented. The lotion is not as effective as the tablets, but most patients should see improvements.

How should the Trichagen lotion be used?
The lotion is supplied with an applicator, and 1ml should be applied to the affected area twice daily (am & pm). The ingredients are in an alcoholic base, and leave no trace on the hair and scalp, with no odour.

When can you expect to see results?

Hair loss in most people develops over a long period of time, and therefore results do not appear over night. In general, most patients notice a reduction or the stopping of hair loss within 6 months, as well as a reduction in the amount of scalp sebum. It may be up to 12 months before an increase in hair density is noticed, but providing the follicle is still alive, improvements can occur. If you stop using Trichagen lotion, you are likely to lose the hair you have gained within 6-12 months.
